MEMBERS of All Saints’ Church have been getting creative throughout the summer as they partnered with the local independent art centre Spacecraft to take part in evening drawing classes at the church.
The classes took place over seven weeks in June and July with the budding artists trying their hand at new techniques and focussing on a different aspect of the church each time.
Beth Thomas, churchwarden for All Saints said, “It was a joy to welcome the artists into the church led by the talented Ali Vermeeren. We enjoyed their quiet concentration as they worked on their drawings.
“The drawing classes were a collaboration between Spacecraft and All Saints’ Church. The artists were able to try out new techniques and were inspired by the beautiful building. All Saints’ Church members say they were pleased to share their building more widely with the people of Westbury.”
For their final session the artists made a collaborative piece, a 3D model of the Ley Memorial located in the south transept. They created a ‘peep show’ or funnel book. Each artist worked on their own section, in their own style. At the end each section was slotted together in a wonderful collaborative piece of art. The different style of each artist all contributing to the finished piece.
Ali Vermeeren of Spacecraft said, “It’s been such a special term to draw with all the artists. What a venue! We hope to return next summer.”
The finished piece can be found next to the Memorial in the church until the end of the school holidays.
