A WESTBURY woman is taking on three challenges in 2013 with the aim of raising £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Charlie Hocking will run the Yeovil Half Marathon in March, take on the Three Peaks Challenge in May, and climb Mt Kilimanjaro in the summer.
Charlie has already completed the Three Peaks Challenge twice before, raising a total of £1,400, but is now raising her sights even higher. Charlie said, “I have chosen to raise money for Cancer Research UK partly for very selfish reasons of not wanting to lose any more family or friends to cancer; partly for self-preservation because if I ever find myself in a position where I have cancer I’d like to think I’ve done my best to support the research that will save my life; and thirdly because it’s a killer that – with your support – we can hopefully one day stop dead it its tracks.
“Having lost family members and seen friends suffer from cancer, I chose to do the Three Peaks Challenge for the last two years to raise money for Cancer Research UK. But this year I’d like to do something more challenging, which is why I’m taking on three challenges.
“The challenges puts the easiest first with the hardest last – purely by coincidence. However the half marathon is likely to be the least enjoyable as I’ve always avoided long runs in the past as they’ve always looked too difficult and painful!”
