WHITE Horse Morris Dancers recently shared the traditions and origins of Morris dancing with 1st Westbury (Cyril’s Own) Beaver Scouts.
The visit from the Morris dancing group was to help the Beavers with one of their Challenge Badges.
Assistant Beaver Scout leader, Diane Perrett, reports, “Following an introduction, and a Q and A session, the dancers performed a couple of dances and then introduced the sticks. The Beavers were very excited to have a turn with the sticks and loved practicing hitting their partners sticks and learning some simple dance moves.
“There was a slight delay caused by the arrival of Hobnob, the dancers’ hobbyhorse, who greeted all the children and then the dancing got underway.
“The children enjoyed the lively accordion music and despite a couple of wrong turns, succeeded in completing the whole dance.
“Parents joined the children to watch a final dance before the evening ended. The Beavers thoroughly enjoyed the evening but we’re very disappointed when they had to give the sticks back!”
