RUNNERS from near and far are gearing up for the 17th Bratton Happy Valley Hilly Run on Saturday 11th May.
Participants can still enter the run while spectators are welcome to come along and watch on the day.
The 11.4km course starts at the Jubilee Hall in the village and covers challenging hilly terrain, particularly with an early climb up to the White Horse. However, runners are rewarded with picturesque views of the countryside.
The run has always been a key event in Bratton’s annual calendar. It was founded by the late Roger Broberg to raise money for the school, and nowadays a donation is made to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Dot Reeves, one of the organisers said, “It’s definitely a scenic route and there’s the challenge of the hill. It’s an enjoyable race where everyone always comments that it’s very friendly.
“The whole village comes out – the pub puts on a band and barbecue and the school usually runs a mini race.”
The race attracts runners from clubs around the country, including Leicester, London, and Gillingham.
The run is organised by the Bratton Jubilee Hall management committee and is open to runners over 16. Entires can be downloaded from the website, www.brattonjubilee hall. org.uk and should be returned by post, although entries are also accepted on the day.
Registration starts at 9.00am and the race starts at 11.00am.
