TRANSFORMATION plans for Westbury Heritage Centre’s new home in the town’s library have been put on hold due to the latest lockdown, but the society has used the down time to build its online presence.
A new website and enhanced Facebook profile are being worked on, and members have been kept well informed with regular bulletins from the society.
Sally Hendry, Westbury Heritage Society chair, told White Horse News, “Covid has affected us just as bad as many other shops, businesses, museums etc and our plans for a grand reopening of the heritage centre in the new venue of the library has had to be put on hold.
“We moved our collection into storage on the top floor of the library back in August, but due to lockdown, we have not really been able to access it or to plan for the transformation of the first floor room that will house our exhibitions and collection.
“However, we are not going to let it get us down! We have been using this very strange time to develop a new website and to build our online presence with Facebook, as well as keeping in touch with our members with regular bulletins. We have loads of exciting plans for the future and are desperate to get cracking!”
The move from the society’s former High Street premises, funded by Westbury Town Council, has provided a dedicated space for displays of the town’s history and the large collection of local artefacts.
There is a storage facility on the top floor and plans are afoot for more outreach activities with schools and local organisations, including talks, walks and exhibitions.
