This year’s Westbury Model Railway Show – the 19th put on by The West Wiltshire Gague 0 Group – was again successful with over 200 people attending, commenting on how pleasant and variable the show was.
Co-organisers Barrie Chappell and Rod Towler say, “The main attraction was Keith’s 0 Gauge test track in its largest set up, where you could sit and watch the trains go by. Keith wore a replica of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s signature top hat, which he had specially made for the show. This caused much amusement with the public and fellow modellers, and delighted the children.
“Other layouts included vintage Hornby tinplate in the entrance hall next to Ron Pybus’ modern layout showing how it is done. There was a continental layout with working cranes and railway maintenance vehicles, next to an impressive display showing a working model of breakdown cranes in 0 Gauge.
“John and Paul’s layout showed the high standard that can be achieved in building layouts, next to which, Ashley and Verity entertained the younger visitors with their fine Scalextric layout which could be operated by the youngsters.
“Jim’s 00 Hornby Dublo layout took us back to the 1950s, with 3 rail tinplate. Finally, there was 7-year-old Sally with her beginners’ layout.
“Added to this was traders selling lots of goodies in time for Christmas and the demonstrators showing how it can be done.
“We give our thanks to Angela, Paul, Melanie and Sue for their hard work in the tea bar and Andy and Roxi of AM Print and Copy for the superb show guide and posters.”
