THE Imperial Charity shop on Warminster Road is calling on Westbury residents to volunteer to help it recover from the Covid pandemic.
Bob Summerfield, business manager for Imperial says, “We are always seeking volunteers for our shop on the high street. Without them the charity shop would not be able to exist. They provide such a vital role in assisting the manager by performing a variety of tasks which range from manning the till and customer service, to accepting and sorting donations which arrive in a constant stream.
“Volunteers can offer their services for as little as a couple hours to a half day or more if they wish, depending what suits them. Anyone considering volunteering can either visit the shop or call 01373 822207 to register their interest. They will be made very welcome and given all necessary training and information they need to feel comfortable and confident.”
Imperial faced a hard time during the previous lockdowns as restrictions meant their business was severely limited. The charity shop had hoped to bounce back following the lifting of restrictions, but news of the new omicron variant has caused yet another setback.
Bob added, “With regards to “bouncing back” after lock down, we couldn’t say we have bounced back! Since reopening, business has not returned to previous levels like many other businesses.
“Whilst not being totally disastrous we have managed to keep our heads above water and been able to fulfil our charitable commitments when required by giving grants to special needs schools, arranging the annual coach trip to a Christmas market (this year to Winchester) and financing entertainment in care and nursing homes when requested and Covid restrictions permitting.
“We were just starting to feel quietly confident that the New Year would bring a fresh impetus to everyone which now seems rather doubtful given the circumstances we all now find ourselves in.”
