UP-COMING folk band Morales/Watts recently rubbed shoulders with the stars when they appeared alongside the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
The folk trio – headed by local postie and Westbury music scene stalwart Leander Morales – played in the legendary festival’s Avalon Fields on the afternoon of Sunday 28th July.
Morales/Watts’ Glastonbury appearance is the latest in a string of high profile shows this year with the likes of folk star Cara Dillon.
Leander, who has attended the festival ten times over the last 15 years said, “It was brilliant. I’ve been waiting to play here now for the last five years, so we all feel really lucky to have been a part of this amazing festival.
“I really enjoyed the gig – even though we had to postpone it by fifteen minutes because of Will Young’s subwoofers!”
Leander said that the appearance had been a great leg up for band.
He said, “If people can see credentials on your biography like this it can give you a springboard, and it was a big boost for Jon, Patrick and myself.
“Things like this are vital for our progress and it’s great to be suddenly thrown in with the elite of musicians. I think more than anything we just felt privileged to be a part of it.
“It’s brilliant to be thrown amongst these bands and see what it is you need to do in order to succeed.”
Morales Watts also appeared on the dedicated festival radio station Worthy FM, a traditional mouthpiece for the festival’s best ‘undiscovered acts’.
If associating themselves with the world’s most famous music festival wasn’t enough, the trio are already looking forward to supporting Radio 2 A-listed Jon Allen at Chapel Arts Centre in Bath on 22nd September.
Leander said, “It’s going to be great to perform with someone who is fresh, and a big name in the Radio 2 world at the moment.”
