WESTBURY’S Neighbourhood Policing Team has been nominated for a national award to recognise its work with young people.
The team has been put forward for a Justice Award in the Tackling Youth Crime category, and has made the shortlist of 10 finalists.
Nick Holt, Westbury’s community beat manager, said, “I’m very happy to have made the finalists. It’s indicative of the hard work the two Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) do out there working with kids all the time, and there’s a long list of people who support what we do.
“It’s a nice endorsement of the work people in youth services do, and the PCSOs.”
The Justice Awards were founded in 2004 by the Attorney General, Baroness Scotland of Asthal, when she was Home Secretary. They are intended to recognise excellence from teams and individuals working in the criminal justice system in England and Wales.
Wiltshire Police Chief Inspector Jon Tapper said, “I am very pleased that the Westbury Neighbourhood Policing Team has been nominated for this award. They have put a great deal of effort into tackling youth related crime in partnership with the community and stakeholders. The team is dedicated to tackling and reducing all crime in the area and will continue that work with partners for the benefit of all the community.”
The Westbury team will now have to wait and see if they make the final shortlist, announced at the end of September, before the awards ceremony in London in October.
