THIS year Westbury’s Remembrance parade will take place on Sunday 8th November.
The parade will depart from the Warminster Road car park at 10.30am and proceed towards town, turning into Haynes Road and then the High Street before stopping at the war memorial for a short remembrance service.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, John Bush, will lay a wreath, along with the town mayor cllr Sue Ezra, and a representative from the Regular Commissions Board, followed by representatives of the British Legion and local groups. There will be a two-minute silence in honour of soldiers past and present at 11.00am.
The parade will then continue down Edward Street, before turning onto West End, back on to Haynes Road and finishing at the High Street car park at 11.45am. Various groups will be represented in the parade, including Westbury Army Cadets, Air Cadets, Guides, St John’s Ambulance and the Brownies.
Last year around 300 people took part in the parade itself, with a similar number set to participate this year.
The parade will be led this year for the first time by the Trowbridge Youth Band, with ‘The Last Post’ performed by Richard Bingham, who has bugled for the Queen.
British Legion member and parade marshall Alan Smith said, “It’s a nice thing to remember soldiers both past and present who gave their lives so that we can enjoy our freedom today. I think taking some time out of your day to consider their sacrifice is appropriate. We usually have a very sizeable turnout for a town of Westbury’s population.”
