Christmas kicks off officially in Westbury on Friday 27th November as the town’s Christmas lights are switched on.
As in previous years the evening will be a fun packed event, featuring festive music, a choir, compering from Radio 3TR FM, children’s rides and a visit from Father Christmas himself.
The display will also burn a little brighter this year as some new lights have been installed in the Market Place.
This year the lights will be switched on at 6.30pm, rather than at 6.00pm as in the past, to prevent a cluttering of the packed schedule.
Westbury mayor cllr Sue Ezra, said, “I’m looking forward to Christmas in Westbury this year.
“I’m looking forward to the Christmas lights switch on, I hope lots will come out because it will be fun. We usually do get a good crowd and we had quite a turnout last year. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us.”
The lights switch-on marks the start of a packed schedule of activities and events that all kinds of groups have planned for the festive period, from Advent carols by candlelight to a day of street events in the High Street, and a pool party for youngsters at Westbury Swimming Pool.
Cllr Ezra added, “Overall there’s a lot going on in and around the town, such as the open air carol concert. There’s a good range of activities that must cater for most people in the town and I hope the people of Westbury come out and support their community and support Westbury.”
Details of the Christmas programme for Westbury can be found on page 21, or is available in the Christmas booklet which has been distributed around the town by the town council.
