TWO churches in Westbury are taking part in a ‘sleep out’ to raise money and awareness for a homeless charity.
All Saints Church and Edington Priory will host the evening on Friday 26th February when clergy and volunteers will camp out for the night to raise money for the Alabare charity’s centres in Trowbridge and Salisbury.
Other churches across the region will also be participating, including Salisbury Cathedral.
Rev Steven Baggs from the White Horse Ministry team said, “I took part in last year’s sleep out at Salisbury Cathedral. I thought ‘why not get our young people involved?’ We’ll be in the porch area of All Saints Church similar to the cloisters of Salisbury Cathedral, and will be nice and cold.
“We’ll raise sponsorship for Alabare and I think it will bring the whole thing home to us. I think we’ll be creating a mini cardboard city in there!”
The Alabare drop in centres provide a secure and comfortable shelter for homeless people and those facing homelessness. Last year’s sleep-out event raised £32,000 for Alabare’s projects across the south-west.
