PAST and present members of Westbury’s Air Training Corps came together to celebrate the squadron’s 20th anniversary on Saturday 20th February.
The celebrations, at the Laverton building, commemorated the squadron’s history from inception and receiving ATC status on January 1st 1990.
Around 100 people attended the evening, which featured entertainment from local musicians Al and Gill Summers, Us Two and guest singing from MGB. A hog roast kept everybody well fed from a 62 kg pig.
ATC civilian chairman Chris Horsey said, “A great time was had by all.
“ATC and RAF members from multiple generations attended and caught up in a relaxed atmosphere without having to kit up and march around all evening!”
Wing Warrant Officer Alan Smith, formerly of 68th Squadron RAF presented a plaque to ATC Warrant Officer Richard Taylor which contained the “History of the 68 Squadron RAF”.
Richard said, “It’s a nice little plaque which we will put up in the drill hall. Alan has been associated with the ATC since the beginning so it was nice to receive that from him. It went very well, I was really quite pleased with the number we had.
“There were quite a few there from the original group 20 years ago. A lot of them had not seen each other in 18 or 20 years. I remembered a few names and faces to their surprise!”
Chris added, “I’d like to extend a great big thank you to the following; both bands for providing such excellent background music for the evening, Wiltshire Carvery for the excellent hog roast, Town Council for the use of the hall. Also all those who helped ready the hall, tidy the hall and organised stuff in the background, Richard and Julie Taylor for all their hard work with the ATC mob over the past many years!
