WILTSHIRE Council will soon appreciate just how many people are supporting Westbury Pool, when the impressive petition of 2,250 signatures, calling to keep the pool open, is presented to them.
Following the huge response, the paper petition has now been stopped and cllr Mike Cuthbert Murray will hand the petition to Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott.
Bob Lee, chairman of Save Westbury Pool committee said, “It surely shows the great strength of feeling in Westbury and surrounding villages to keep our swimming pool open. Our thanks are due to the shops, clubs, and pubs that have collected the signatures on our behalf, and of course all those who made the effort to sign – a magnificent effort which must register with our politicians who will decide the future of local pools and other leisure services.”
People are still able to join the Save Westbury’s Swimming Pool group on Facebook, which now has over 1,500 members. The Save Westbury Pool committee is now urging people to sign the online government petition at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/savewestburypool/, which can recommence with a new government. Those who have already signed the paper petition are able to sign the government petition in addition.
Save Westbury Pool now has a website constructed by Auburn Design, which has background notes, historical facts, pictures, and updates on the campaign at www.savewestburypool.org.uk. The website hopes to include a section of local people’s memories, and anyone who wishes to contribute can do so by contacting the site or Bob Lee on 01373 301 183.
