Wiltshire’s library service is currently undertaking a county-wide review of its services, as it must achieve £500K worth of savings within 2 years.
Westbury library is one of 31 libraries in the county, and people in the town are being invited to submit their ideas and priorities for the future of the library service.
Wiltshire Council is keen to underline the fact that they are not closing libraries; however, changes will have to be made to achieve the required savings.
Situated in the town centre, Westbury Library is a busy centre of activity, and currently offers a wide range of services to the community. These currently include a range of books from contemporary to classics, books in large print, talking books, audio tapes, CDs and DVDs. There are also four computers with free internet access and a photocopier and fax machine. The library hosts many reading groups and schemes for both children and adults as well as special activities and offers during school holidays.
Sabina Edwards, Community Librarian at Westbury Library, said, “Fortunately we’re very well used which is great, it’s lovely to be supported. People should send in their comments, that’s what we want.”
People can submit their thoughts and comments via the feedback form on the ‘Libraries Review’ section of the library website: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisureandculture/librarieshome.htm
