WESTBURY and the villages are ready to join in all the celebrations for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday.
Local pubs are organising a range of royal wedding celebration events while schools are getting into the celebrations a day early with street parties, games, maypole dancing, tea and cakes, and learning more about the marriage service itself among the activities planned.
The Railway Inn in Station Road is hosting a family barbecue – ‘fit for a king’ – with a big screen outside to show the wedding. Tickets are available in advance from the pub. Teresa Mead, landlady at The Railway said “We’ve got a barbecue and big screen in the garden and we’ll be decorating in red, white and blue. And there will be face painting, a bouncy castle and lots of fun for all the family.”
The French delegation visiting from Westbury’s twin town Château du Loir will be experiencing the British way of celebrating the festivities at The Duke in Bratton, who will be having plenty going on from 10.00am on Friday morning. The wedding will be shown on two screens, and there will be a hog roast and live music from 1.00pm onwards. Landlady Lyn Hobbs explained, “We’ll also be having a skittles and boules competition, England vs France, as we’ve got the French delegation here. We’ve got our brand new outside bar and beer festival and we’re booking sunshine!”
The Horse and Groom in Alfred Street is celebrating with a fancy dress party on the day, where revellers are invited to use their imagination to come dressed as something that begins with a W or a K. There will also be ‘W’ and ‘K’ themed cocktails and karaoke as the evening gets going.
There will also be a Royal Wedding Party at the White Horse Country Park with Big Screen TV, live band ‘Kabando’, disco, royal buffet and fancy dress. Tickets are £10 from Maristow Barbers or White Horse Country Park
The following day, on Saturday 30th April the Jubilee Hall in Bratton will be hosting a wedding reception with sherry reception, full buffet, live entertainment, and limited bar available. Tickets are available from the village shop.
