FIRST Steps to Worship, the parent and child group that meets at All Saints Church, Westbury, recently celebrated their 21st birthday.
The group was started in 1990 by Rev Dorothy Bellamy, and continues to meet on Wednesday mornings for fun and music. On Wednesday 11th May the group celebrated their birthday with a special session, cake, and a picnic. Members of the group also took home a special anniversary songbooklet.
Sharon Jones, who has run the group for many years said, “It’s for pre-school children and their parents, carers, mums, dads, granddads and grandmothers! We have little choruses and songs and whistles and shakers and the Mother’s Union ladies do our teas and coffees.”
Sharon said that the friendly nature of the group is what has kept it thriving so long. “I think everyone likes a little bit of structure and enjoys the singing. We’ve got quite a few but it’s not too big – that can be quite daunting when you’re coming to a new group.”
