YOUTH services in Westbury will continue to operate, but young people who use the facilities will have to contribute towards the running of facilities.
The future of Westbury’s youth service was thrown into doubt after Wiltshire Council, who say they need to make a £600,000 saving over two years, announced that one possible option would have been to close youth centres.
Now, the council’s cabinet has voted to keep youth centres open but the young people who use the facilities will have to contribute £2,500 through fundraising to support their local youth centre.
The aim is for the county’s youth centres themselves to contribute £45,000.
Wiltshire Council plan to save £450,000 from youth services over the next year, with an additional saving of £150,000 in the following year.
Contributing towards the savings are plans to axe “four or five jobs” which will save £122,500, with £282,500 being saved from support budgets.
