A FORMER Westbury mayor has returned to Westbury Town Council, representing the Westbury Ham ward.
Liberal Democrat Gordon King was elected as town councillor after his candidacy for the position was uncontested. Cllr King takes the seat of Mike Hawkins, who resigned in August.
Having lived in Westbury since the age of 8, cllr King served as a town councillor for many years before stepping down at the town council elections in 2007. He served as Westbury mayor in 1999-2000. He also formerly served on Wiltshire County Council and West Wiltshire District Council
Cllr King says that, since being made redundant from his job at the National Trust, he now has the time to offer the community again. “I’m very community focused and really want to help and serve the Westbury community,” he said. “As I now have time to dedicate myself I thought it was time to come back!
“I am a member of the Crosspoint committee and I’m very interested in developing that – it’s great for social mobility and social inclusion. My great interests are in housing, environment, waste, and waste disposal, and I’m very interested in highways issues.”
Cllr King is also a former governor of both Bitham Brook Primary School and Matravers School, a former member of the youth centre management committee, and former chair of the ‘Save the Hospital’ committee.
