A GROUP of Westbury youngsters organised their own fund-raising event after hearing about the work of Dorothy House Hospice.
Ten-year-old Betsy Morrison, her cousins Jordan Morrison, 10, and Tia Johnson, eight, and friends Phoebe and Molly Bygrave, aged eight and nine, organised a fun day for family and friends to raise funds for the hospice. The children raised over £160 for the Winsley-based hospice.
Betsy’s mother, Lisa Morrison explained, “Betsy had the idea when she heard about my mum’s friend, who became very poorly. Betsy’s nanny explained to her all about Dorothy House. She said her friend would stay in a beautiful place, which would care for her towards the end of her illness. Betsy was touched by this and wanted to raise money to help.
“Her cousins Jordan and Tia and best friends Molly and Phoebe all got involved by making posters, thinking of game ideas and finding sponsors for their run – 100 times around the garden. They would like to make this a yearly event because we all had so much fun and raised money at the same time!”
Dorothy House community fundraiser Yvonne Brunton said, “We were so impressed that the children organised the whole thing themselves, and raised £163.12 for Dorothy House – a great achievement.”
