A bright but cold day saw 20 members set off from the National Trust village of Lacock on a 9 mile walk led by Pippa Clarke.
After crossing the bridge and ford they turned right to walk to Reybridge. Crossing over the very swollen river Avon they turned into a field on the left and then, crossing a lane, passed along a well fenced path into an open field. On reaching the Wilts and Berks canal the walkers enjoyed a pleasant walk along the canal which is still being renovated. After a coffee break and 2-minute silence to commemorate Remembrance Day, they then proceeded to the disused locks and crossed over a narrow bridge into open fields before joining a farm track leading to a road parallel to the A4. A turn right onto the public footpath of Nocketts Hill took them up this steep hill before turning off right on to footpaths across open fields to a farm track. A few fallen tree trunks served as welcome seating for the lunch stop.
Continuing on up the hill the walkers then turned left on to a lane and then right on to a track leading toward Spye Park. Skirting the boundary of Spye Park they emerged through a wood on to the road leading to the gatehouse.
Crossing the common, the walkers turned right on to Bewley Crescent and followed the lane leading back toward Reybridge and beyond into Lacock.
An interesting and varied walk which was made even more pleasant by good weather conditions.
