IT’S not too late to have your say on the environmental impact of a Westbury incinerator – but time is running out.
Comments to the Environment Agency (EA) about the Westbury NREL incinerator operation permit, have to be submitted by this Sunday, 21st February.
Local campaign group WGAG/No Westbury Incinerator say, “Please do make a submission’ if you haven’t already, as every informed voice will make a difference!”
The group has serious concerns over the proximity of the proposed incinerator to the town and safety issues over operation of the plant.
“The Environment Agency (EA) now seeking ‘your comments’ to help ascertain as to whether they can, or should issue an operational licence to Northacre Renewable Energy Ltd’ (a subsidiary of the Hills Group),” says the group.
“You can make your contribution to the EA, via the online portal https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/…/ ba13-4we…/ or by email to: pscpublicresponse@environment-agency.gov.uk starting with the words: ‘Westbury Incinerator Permit – BA13 4WE’.
“Please note that the Environment Agency will only take account of:
• Relevant environmental regulatory requirements and technical standards.
• Information on local population and sensitive sites.
• Comments on whether the right process is being used for the activity, for example whether the technology is the right one.
• The shape and use of the land around the site in terms of its potential impact, whether that impact is acceptable and what pollution control or abatement may be required.
• The impact of noise and odour from traffic on site.
• Permit conditions by providing information that we have not been made aware of in the application, or by correcting incorrect information in the application (e.g. monitoring and techniques to control pollution).
The decision about whether planning permission should be given for a Westbury incinerator will be made by Wiltshire Council’s strategic planning committee. No date has yet been set for this meeting.
