AN Emergency Planning Workshop for local town and parish councils will take place on Thursday 12th November to discuss how Westbury and surrounding areas are prepared to deal with extreme weather or disaster emergencies.
The meeting will take place at The Laverton from 5.30pm to 8pm and will be led by a range of experts who deal with flooding, snow, storms, public health and the emergency services.
Head of public protection Surriya Subramaniam said, “We welcome Westbury Area Board’s support for a community resilience workshop. Parish councils who have attended previous workshops have given us very positive feedback as they can learn from experts in flooding, snow, health, the police and other agencies.
“We know that emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time. In the past year alone, we have helped people recover from floods, power cuts, and water outages. As winter approaches, we are asking that communities prepare themselves for the worst that severe weather can throw at them.
“When their communities are organised and prepared, residents can be confident that they will be safer and the workshop is a great way of achieving that and we look forward to delivering it.”
A range of tools and templates will be provided to refresh emergency plans for communities, and to discuss any issues or queries you may have. Light refreshments will be available from 5pm.
Members of the public are also welcome as well as community groups, emergency services and anyone who can help or might be affected.
