MORE than £10,000 has been raised for local community projects following the successful White Horse Classic & Vintage Vehicle Show organised by the Lions of Westbury and Trowbridge on 1st September.
More than 400 vintage vehicles exhibited at the White Horse Country Park along with live entertainment, stalls and walkabout acts.
Westbury Lions’ president Michelle Strout said, “It was an absolutely fantastic event. Everyone involved worked so hard. A huge thank you to all who exhibited their vehicles, all the stallholders and everyone who came to support our event.
“I am so proud of all the Lions and volunteers who made it such a fantastic event. It makes it all worthwhile as we have received so much positive feedback and everyone has said how much we had improved in just one year following our first event last year. Nearly all of the exhibitors said that they would return again next year.
“We have also taken on board feedback from the public, exhibitors and stallholders to make next year bigger and better. Thanks must also go to Julian Richards who was our compere throughout the event, all the acts on the stage and all who helped out. Yesterday made me very proud to be a Lion!”
Westbury Lion Nigel Coward, who helped organise the event said, “It was amazing, we are still early days on the numbers but looks like we have taken over £14,000 on the day. There are a few costs to come out of that but it’s looking like over £10,000 will be shared between the Westbury and Trowbridge Lions, which is a cracking result for us.
“The weather was on our side, there were lots of people enjoying the music, walking around the vehicles and the food this year was wonderful. Our Lions were serving food as well as vendors who came to the event.
“The feedback we have received has been lovely. The bands were also very popular, with a few people getting up to dance, making the atmosphere just wonderful.
“At one stage there was a least 1700 paying adults through the gates, as well as over 400 vehicles. We are yet to have the final figures but I think around 2,500 people passed through the gate. People also came from far and wide including France and Monmouthshire!
“We have received a high amount of praise from both visitors and exhibitors which is what we set out to get. This event is to put Westbury on the map, show the town in the best light and I really think we have something special with this event. Everyone put so much effort into it and ideas are already starting to flow for next year. Let’s see how big we can make it!”
