LOCAL business owner Charlett Elcock took on TV’s toughest assault course game show, Ninja Warrior UK.
Charlett Elcock who owns Pole-Da-Cise in Westbury, made it as far as the renowned ‘Warped Wall’ but unfortunately didn’t make it to the top to hit the button. However, producers of the show have told Charlett to apply again and give it another go.
Charlett said, “2017 is going to be my year and I’m going to climb that wall!”
Out of 10,000 people who applied, Charlett was one of 250 people to get through to the first stage of the competition which is aired on ITV.
Charlett continued, “I teach pole in Westbury and Melksham and one of the ladies from my class tagged me on a post on Facebook about applying for the show. I’d never thought about applying and hadn’t seen the show before so just brushed it aside. But all the ladies saw the post and kept going on and on at me to apply, so just to shut them up I went home and half-heartedly put together a two-minute video on my phone, not thinking at all that I would hear back. But a month or so later, I had an email from the Ninja Warrior UK production team inviting me to Swansea for an audition.
“I didn’t know what to expect as they don’t tell you anything. It was in a CrossFit gym and we had to complete a circuit of various things. We also had to do a piece to the camera to show your personality. I had prepared a rap for them which I thought was really good! And they must have liked it because I received another email to say I had got through to the television programme stage and that they wanted to come and film at my house for the show. They were particularly interested in me because I’m a mum of two and at only 30 years-old, I own my own business. It was a great day, they filmed me with my kids and spent the whole day with us.
“I then went to Manchester to compete. Some of the girls from my class hired a minibus and drove down to support me, which I was over the moon with. I was petrified before I went on, the crowd was going crazy! I made it to the wall but didn’t manage to get to the top. I was really gutted but I tried my hardest, so I was super proud of myself.
“It did take quite a bit of pestering from the ladies in my class but I’m so glad I did it now and I will beat the wall this year!”
