SPLITZ Support Service, a local domestic abuse and sexual violence charity, based in Wiltshire, is to launch its first online support group for LGBTQ+ victims of domestic abuse.
The group, which will start in November will run for six weeks and seeks to support anyone who is still in, or has recently left an abusive relationship.
While the group doesn’t start until November, the charity is now taking referrals.
Frankie Duddridge, Splitz Support Service’s Wiltshire Service Manager said, “Splitz Support Service recognises that anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, socio-economic status or background.
“As well as the barriers to accessing help for domestic abuse, members of the LGBTQ+ community can face additional barriers like their partner threatening to out them to friends or family; gender stereotypes; fears of not being believed and the social impact of reporting the abuse and the possibility of being alienated from their friends.
“Through this group, we want to create a safe space for group members to learn about and discuss domestic abuse, identify the dynamics of abuse and coercive control, start planning towards an abuse free life as well as benefiting from being amongst a supportive group of people from the LGBTQ+ community.”
To be referred for a place on this group, please contact the duty team on 01225 775 276, where you can speak confidentially to a member of staff, or complete the online referral form at Phoenix Self Referral Form (splitz.org)
