LOCAL MP Dr Andrew Murrison has written to Wiltshire Council to suggest that Westbury should have a bypass built to cope with any potential upgrades to Junction 17 (J17) – the Chippenham junction – of the M4.
In a letter to Terence Herbert, chief executive of Wiltshire Council, Dr Murrison said, “I note the proposal to spend £27 million more on J17 and your major highways projects’ call for views. I would be grateful for your recognition of the increased traffic likely to result along the already stressed A350 from an upgrade of this scale to the junction.
“In particular, I seek your assurance that the J17 plan will be discussed with the department for transport north-south study team which is expected to report in September. It will add further weight to the argument, already exceptionally strong, for a Westbury bypass.”
