MATRAVERS’ recent production of Little Shop of Horrors has been hailed a ‘blooming’ success, with organisers thanking the students for their hard work and dedication which ensured the production went off without a hitch.
Little Shop of Horrors is about a nerdy florist who finds his chance for success and romance with the help of a giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed. The show took place at the Matravers Theatre from Tuesday 17th January until Friday 20th January.
Rebecca Walker, director and producer of the show, said that it was her honour to see the students shine on stage.
She said, “It was my absolute privilege to direct and produce another successful musical production at Matravers School. Little Shop of Horrors has, I am sure, given the students hundreds of incredible memories to take with them through their years; I know I will remember it for a long time to come.
“Show week was astounding! The feedback from students, parents and the wider community has been nothing other than positive, which is a true reflection of the efforts made by all involved. The roar of the audiences we entertained said it all; what an amazing show!
“The principal actors have, quite rightly, gained a huge amount of recognition from those who saw their performances. Seeing my students, no matter the role, shining on stage will always be my greatest honour as their drama teacher.
“Every element came together perfectly, from the bespoke set made by our very own Mr Young, to the spectacular choreography of Mrs Henderson, the excellence of Mrs Phillips’ musical direction and of course the brilliantly monstrous man-eating plant puppets from Scenetec (Dorchester). It really was outstanding.
“Thank you to everyone who visited Matravers Theatre to support our Footlights Family as they took to the stage for the production of the year. We hope to see you again next year!”
The show received positive feedback online, with many people praising the talent on show.
One commenter said, “What a talented bunch of young children both on stage and behind the scenes. This was our first time going to watch one of their productions and couldn’t believe how good it was and how professional it was! You should all be very proud of yourselves.” Another said, “It’s amazing the hard work and dedication that goes into productions such as these. The students and staff are just so talented.”
