Westbury mayor, cllr Ian Cunningham, cut the ribbon on 29th March to officially open the new High Street Post Office at McColls retail group, in the High Street.
There was a big community celebration to mark the official re-opening, restoring a Post Office to the town. Elvis impersonator, John Whitlam of the Elvis Experience, entertained customers.
The previous branch closed in October 2017 when the Co-op store where it was based closed down before becoming Lidl.
The new Post Office will be open seven days a week until 8pm every day. The opening hours are: Monday to Saturday: 6am – 8pm; and Sunday: 7am – 8pm.
Mayor cllr Ian Cunningham said, “Every town needs a Post Office, so we are thrilled to have a Post Office back at the heart of the community. Westbury residents and businesses really did miss having a Post Office and now we have a branch that is conveniently located and which is open daily.”
Dr Andrew Murrison MP, had been due to attend the official opening, however, MPs were unexpectedly required to attend Parliament for Brexit debates.
He said, “The Westbury community is absolutely delighted to have a Post Office in Westbury again. The fact that it is open from early until late, seven days a week, makes it very convenient to do a wide range of Post Office services, including banking transactions on behalf of most banks.”
Chief operating officer for McColl’s retail group, Dave Thomas said, “We are delighted to welcome Post Office customers to our store, which offers a wide range of Post Office services alongside our extensive retail offer. As a convenience store operator we are always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers and the additional Post Office services will be available for the full opening hours of the store, in order to provide an excellent service for the local community.
“Post Office services are provided from a low-screened Post Office counter integrated into the retail counter of the McColl’s store, enabling customers to carry out a wide range of Post Office transactions alongside retail purchases.”
Adam Williams, Post Office multiples account executive said, “From conversations with residents and businesses, we knew the importance of a Post Office to the people of Westbury. We are really pleased that we could incorporate a Post Office into this McColl’s store at the heart of the community. We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to pay their bills, withdraw cash from their bank accounts, and send and collect their mail at a time and place that suits them best.”
