A NEW music and drama class, Little Voices, launched in Westbury last month.
Little Voices is a mid-week music and drama class for children aged 4-7 for Mini Voices and 8-12 for Little Voices, held at Leigh Park Community Centre.
Trained singing and drama tutors teach small classes of children, working towards LAMDA qualifications. The Westbury class was launched on Wednesday 26th February.
Lorraine Mahoney of Little Voices said, “We are extremely excited to bring Little Voices to Westbury and are thrilled to have had such a good turnout of children for our first sessions. We are looking forward to meeting more children in the area who may be interested in joining us.”
Little Voices was first established in 2007. Founders say it builds confidence and nurtures talent through inspirational education in music and drama for children.
Lorraine continued, “Our small classes mean we can focus on the individual child’s development, ensure everyone gets a part and provide a wonderful, caring environment where your child can make new friends and grow in confidence.
“Mini Voices – for children aged 4-7 introduces children to the performing arts, with fun at the core of our lessons. These lessons are short to maximise concentration and learning. We also start to nurture your child’s talents and develop their communication skills.
“Little Voices – for children aged 8-12 continue to develop talent and communication skills. During these lessons we introduce characterisation, expression, complex scripts and working together as a cast. We really nurture their young singing voices, with vocal health as a priority and fundamental acting techniques.
“Lessons take place mid-week and after school, meaning no weekend commitment encroaching on all-important family time. If you’d like to find out what makes our award-winning lessons so amazing, please get in touch.”
Westbury’s mayor, cllr Mike Sutton, went along to watch the class. He said, “It is so wonderful to see the children express themselves through music, voice and dance. It is very important for children to have access to the arts, not just in Westbury, but everywhere.
“Music, art and dance are not an active part of the curriculum these days and it seems sad that we don’t value these as basic education. They are essential in developing social skills such as mixing with others. So I think Little Voices is great to help children learn these particular skills.”
The new Westbury classes will be on Wednesdays at Leigh Park Community Centre. Each child will receive a free trial lesson, online registration required.
The times of the classes are 3.30pm-4.00pm for Mini Voices (4-7yrs), 4.00pm-4.45pm for Little Voices (8-12yrs).
