LOCAL MP Andrew Murrison has written to Wiltshire’s chief constable following complaints by constituents about the apparently passive behaviour of Met police officers during recent protests in London after the 7th October Hamas attacks on Israel.
He has also received correspondence from Jewish constituents subjected to hate crime in London.
“I hope to receive assurances that Wiltshire Constabulary policing protests would not simply be passive bystanders and that they would ensure allegations of hate crime and activities by the supporters of terrorist groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad are dealt with appropriately,” Andrew Murrison said.
“I do appreciate that police will always seek to de-escalate potentially violent street situations but British Jews and everyone else have the right to feel safe from the mob and not to feel cowed, intimidated or worse.
“The uptick in anti-Semitism we have been seeing in the UK following Hamas’ attack on Jews has been truly chilling.”
