Up to nine detached and semi-detached houses could be built on land at Five Farthings Farm in Dilton Marsh.
Craig Stone, from Trowbridge, is applying for Planning in Principle – which means Wiltshire Council will determine whether in principle the site is suitable for housing development – for between seven and nine new homes.
The 0.4 hectare parcel of land sits behind an existing house and a large ‘American’ equestrian barn and yard. Access to the houses would be shared with the existing properties.
The applicants point out that when granting on appeal permission for 54 houses elsewhere in the village, the planning inspector had said “there remains the need to bridge the significant gap between housing delivery and the growth that was originally envisaged by the core strategy.”
Agent for the applicant Simon Chambers, of Town & Country Planning, says ‘windfall’ housing developments can make an important contribution to housing supply in the area.
Were permission to be granted, the applicant would submit more detailed plans.
