Westbury Town Council’s latest member was elected recently in a “no contest” result with no by-election taking place because no other candidate came forward.
The vacancy in Westbury North Ward arose when cllr Stephen Miles resigned due to ill health and career demands.
At 31, cllr David Anderson is now Westbury’s newest and its youngest councillor. He moved to Westbury in 2005, works in Brook Lane, Westbury for Westbury Park Engineering and lives in Westbury with his wife and two children.
He is an Independent councillor as he believes that party politics has no place at the town council and he wants to be free to vote on any issue according to what is best for Westbury rather than how a party hierarchy might think.
Cllr David Anderson said, “I’ve already attended several meetings of the town council since last summer, not least because I have been sitting on one of its working groups as a local resident to help set up a charity fund raising event that the council is planning to support in the future called Party in Penleigh Park, with the first event likely to occur in the summer of 2017 if all goes well.
“My main aim on the council is to help make Westbury a better place to live, work and play. At the full council meeting on Monday 3rd March, I was appointed to the council’s Highways Planning and Development Committee which will get me involved in commenting on planning applications and road issues.
“A key priority for me is to help the council ensure that Westbury obtains all the facilities it deserves and holds on to what it already has.”
