AFTER 22 years in the army, which included a Military Cross for heroism, former Corporal Major, Glynn Bell, has taken over a Westbury health and fitness club with his wife Alison.
The couple, who are both level 2 gym instructors, have taken over Dynamik-Bodyz Health and Fitness Club in Meadow Lane. Glynn will also be using his 17 years of experience as a physical training instructor in the army to help people of all ages and abilities with their fitness ambitions. Glynn and Alison were members of the gym when they heard that the previous owners, Sharon and Abs, were returning to Scotland. They jumped at the chance to take over the gym and are confident they can maintain the success of the gym, while bringing in their own improvements.Glynn and Alison assure customers that they will keep the successful day-to-day running of the gym – keeping the same equipment, membership prices, and facilties – but with extended opening hours and extra classes all part of the improvements they are making.Alison said, “The general plan is to keep things the same for the time being, but we’re incorporating more classes, improving things, and upgrading as we go along. We’ll have an open day in the near future where people can come and see what we’re doing. “With our classes, we’ve got Zumba, Zumba Gold, Kettlercise, kick boxing, aerobics and legs, bums, and tums.” The gym boasts an extensive range of top quality equipment and the couple welcome both men and women of all fitness abilities and with any exercise goals. Alison explained, “I think what makes us different is that we’re friendly, and welcome all fitness levels for both men and women. I think my husband’s previous military career covers all spheres of fitness. “When we get a new member we do an induction on all the equipment and put together a fitness programme as well, which we can change as you go along, and we offer one-to-one sessions. We’ve got a full range of cardiovascular equipment, and a full range of all resistance weights and free weights, and I think we’re probably the largest gym in Westbury.”The gym also has a sauna and sunbed, and is complete with lockers, showers, and changing rooms. Future plans include introducing a physiotherapist and beautician. Glynn, who received his Military Cross in 2004 following action in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, is now working towards his level 3 gym instructor qualification. As he progresses, he hopes to develop the gym as a venue to help the community, planning to offer programmes from GP referrals and do his bit to tackle childhood obesity in the town. The new extended gym opening hours will be 7.00am-9.00pm on Monday to Friday, and 8.00am-5.00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The gym is located on Meadow Lane, behind King’s Motors. An annual membership costs £25 a month, while the gym will continue to offer a “pay as you train” option for just £5 a session (£4 for under 18s and over 60s).
