IT WAS ‘A Night to Remember’ for Nick Jones, who has malignant hypertension, as celebrity Peter Andre joined him to raise over £7,000 for Dorothy House and a foundation Nick has set up to help bereaved children.
The black tie Oscar-themed fundraising night was enjoyed by over 300 guests, with music, champagne and fun fair rides at Club Ice on Saturday 14th April.
Nick’s condition, malignant hypertension, attacks the heart and internal organs, and Dorothy House are helping him through his end-of-life care.
During the evening, Peter Andre agreed to climb to the first base camp of Mount Everest with Nick, in order to continue his support for the foundation.
On the evening Peter told Nick, “What I think you are doing and what you are setting up is fantastic. Personally, I think that if everyone gets involved and pushes this forward, a lot of people are going to benefit from this.”
Kirsty Gyllenspetz, ticket co-ordinator for the evening said, “The night was a huge success, not just from a fundraising perspective but for the fact Nick had the well-needed reminder (considering how low he has been recently with hospital visits) of how many people are behind him as a person and just wanted the night to be perfect.
“He is an extremely popular man who would break his back to help others, so i am so pleased with the response we had from everyone who came on Saturday or who have kindly donated money to his Gofundme Page.
“Having Peter Andre there was lovely, he is a very nice chap who was genuinely touched by Nick’s circumstances, as we all are. I’m looking forward to their Everest challenge that they shook hands on!
“The atmosphere was just so emotional. It was a very happy place though, if people weren’t crying from Nick’s speech or his dance with his daughter, they were crying with laughter. It was a brilliant night from start to finish.”
Speaking to the White Horse News, Nick said, “We currently have £1,600 in the Gofund me page, but we raised £7,000 for the evening. It was such great fun, I was buzzed through the whole thing.
“But it’s about the kids, the foundation is set up and we have a few ideas about what to do next with it. My perspective is loss is loss, it’s never going to be nice or pleasant, but I want to use this to help children.
“Peter Andre was a great guy. He has offered to help me personally and has arranged a few children that the foundation can help. He has also agreed to be the ambassador for the charity. We are in the planning phases for our Everest climb now!
“It’s a crazy scenario that not many people understand but I feel much better if I keep going. I always go above and beyond. It might take me longer to do things, but I will do it! It’s not over till it’s over.”
