OLYMPIC weightlifter Sonny Webster has officially opened a new strength and conditioning training facility in Westbury.
The new 4,000 square feet mega facility at Ironworx, The Athlete Centre Westbury, welcomed Team GB’s Sonny Webster to help celebrate the new beginning for the gym based at Bridge House on Station Road.
Team GB’s only male weightlifter at the Rio Olympic Games last year was quick to give the gym his stamp of approval. “Sonny loved the set up,” said head coach and director of Ironworx, Lee Salter.
“He was very impressed with the sheer standard and attention to detail. He said the facility was on a par with some of the top university facilities he trains at, and as a strength and conditioning facility that houses CrossFit, Olympic lifting through to Open Gym, Ironworx offers a more complete facility than those he usually comes across.”
As part of the open day visitors could watch Sonny in a weightlifting showcase, as well ask him questions about his career as an Olympic athlete. Sonny also offered coaching to the crowd.
“Everyone who trained picked up a unique experience being coached by Sonny and they all loved him,” said Lee. “The general vibe from new members and friends and family of current members was that the new facility exceeded their expectations and they were very impressed with the spacious feel of the area.
“There was a solid amount of new interest throughout the day and we are already working through the new sign-ups, and excited to help the new members get involved and enjoy the facility and community we have here.”
After weeks of preparation it was a relief for Lee to see the facility open and ready for use. “To be honest I was shattered as there had been a few very long days and weeks building up to the opening to make it all happen.
“I can’t thank a handful of members and friends enough for their time and help. But the biggest thank you goes to my partner Rosie, for her patience with me and understanding.
“The day itself was fantastic, and seeing everyone enjoy themselves and get excited to have the new home of Ironworx is what makes it all worth while.”
