The Open Westbury food project which is helping local families during the pandemic has a new home and a new name.
It has moved from Crosspoint in the Market Place to WCP (Westbury Community Project) off Eden Vale Road. The project has also been granted charitable status and will now be known as WAN (Westbury Area Network).
Volunteers will continue to provide food parcels each Monday and Thursday between 10am and 12pm for members of the Westbury community and the surrounding villages who are experiencing difficulties.
These difficulties may be financial because of the pandemic, a delay in benefits payments, or other situations where individuals and families need short term support.
Being based at WCP also gives the volunteers the opportunity to manage the Community Fridge which is located there. This is open to everyone in our community and is an attempt to reduce the impact of food waste to landfill.
Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets all support both WAN and the community fridge by making donations; fresh produce, which is removed from their shelves when past its best before date but still perfectly usable, is available in the fridge, while stocks last, and can be collected on Monday and Thursday mornings.
“Call in and do your bit, however small, to help reduce the effects of food waste on our planet,” says the group.”
The food project would like to thank Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets, along with their generous customers.
WAN’s email address is westburyareanetwork@gmail.com and their telephone number is 07780 072619 where it will be possible to leave a message.
