WESTBURY’S town crier wants to create a new cry and is appealing to Westbury residents for help.
Sean Price has been using ‘The Seven Wonders of Westbury’, for the last 15 years. Now, he would like to update his cry, and is welcoming suggestions.
Sean said, “I feel we ought to change it. I’ve been using this home cry since 1997 – that’s 15 years of the same thing.
“This is the cry that goes to competitions, when I’m telling people how fantastic Westbury is.
“I’m free to ideas! If someone is prepared to come up with a cry, that’s great. Or we could keep the idea of seven wonders, and change the wonders. Or go for something completely different. If there’s a lot of ideas we could have a competition.
“There are a couple of limitations; it has to be under 100 words, and include ‘Oyez, Oyez, Oyez’ and ‘God Save the Queen’. Aside from those seven words you’ve got a free rein!”
Sean has been Westbury’s town crier since August 1995, and can be seen at events in the town as well as competitions further afield. He sports a green outfit which features the White Horse and even has the iconic local attraction on his shoe buckles.
