Schoolchildren in Bratton have enjoyed an inspiring visit from a Paralympic athlete.
Katrina Hart shared her incredible journey in athletics with pupils at Bratton Primary School.
The 34-year-old was born with cerebral palsy and won a gold medal for England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She has also competed in the IPC Athletics World Championships and the 2008 Paralympics.
At Bratton Primary School, children took part in a sponsored fitness circuit run by Katrina and asked thoughtful questions during a Q&A session.
Pupils have currently been sponsored to take part in the sporting challenges and were able to come up with new ideas following the visit by the athlete. All money raised in the challenges will aid Bratton Primary School in their bid to purchase new sports equipment and improve levels of physical activity for all.
Louise Bunce, health and safety officer, said, “Bratton Primary School students took part in a sponsored fitness circuit run by the athlete, and what a terrific way to get all children excited about sport and realise that getting moving is really fun.
“Katrina kindly shared her incredible sporting journey – a story of resilience and determination – in a fun and interactive assembly. There was an opportunity to ask any burning questions in a Q&A session with their inspiring role-model at the end. The students thoughtful questions showcased their curiosity and respect for her accomplishments.”
Katrina visited the school through Great Athletes, a social enterprise which brings the country’s top athletes to primary schools to run energetic events that inspire kids to be more active and pursue their goals.
