Plans for a new Domino’s pizza takeaway in Westbury have been debated by town councillors.
An application was submitted to open the new branch on Trowbridge Road, near Lidl. The building is currently used by cleaning products supplier Simpsons who will relocate to the West Wilts Trading Estate.
Westbury Town Council discussed the proposals in their most recent meeting of the Highways and Planning Committee.
Key takeaways from the discussion included concerns about noise and parking, due to the fact there are only four spaces outside the building.
Councillor Gordon King said, “Trowbridge Road is classified as A350 which is a constituent part of Wiltshire’s Primary Road network (PRN) attracting high levels of vehicular traffic.
“The building is no more than four metres from the PRN and has four parking spaces at the far side with one bay reserved for disabled drivers. We presume the takeaway will be open for visiting, home delivery and click and collect.
“Without careful management, this may put adverse pressure on those designated parking spaces and could lead to inappropriate parking on the PRN itself which could be dangerous.”
Cllr King also suggested at least two bins be placed outside the proposed store to minimise the risk of any litter.
According to documents submitted by the Pegasus Group on behalf of Third State Pizza, the new pizza takeaway would create 25 jobs and be open between 11am and 11pm. Filtration equipment would be put in place to minimise any odours.
Westbury Town Council’s Highways and Planning Committee supported the planning application but collectively asked the applicant to consider neighbouring properties and minimise any potential noise from the takeaway. Councillors also stressed that any off-street parking should be actively managed to avoid disruption.
Wiltshire Council will have the final say on the plans.
