WESTBURY’S Village Pump Folk Festival will not be held next year because of falling ticket sales in recent years, organisers have announced.
The renowned folk festival, which has been held at the White Horse Country Park since 2012 and was this year headlined by folk legends The Proclaimers, may have sung its last song. There will be no festival in 2017 and its future is in doubt as organisers have deleted the Facebook page and removed all information from the website.
Festival spokesman Clive Woodland told White Horse News, “A lot of people have worked really hard over the last few years to develop the festival and it’s very sad that more people didn’t come this year. We had a really good line-up and the comments on Facebook since the announcement that there won’t be a festival in 2017 show that those who went really enjoyed themselves.”
The festival was started in Trowbridge over 40 years ago and is known for having a cult following, but also attracts visitors and performers from around the country.
Fans took to social media to show their upset, with over 100 people leaving comments on the festival’s Facebook page.
One fan, Colin Walker said, “Really sorry to hear this sad news. Me, my family and friends have been going every year for many years, even when it changed sites. Always a great atmosphere, good music and good company. It will be sad not to have it next year.”
Another, Nicola Ramsey wrote, “So sad as it’s one of the best organised, well run and most enjoyable festivals I go to. Thank you to all of you who made that weekend in July a very special one for me.”
Andrew Rilstone said, “Genuinely gutted. Had more fun at VPFF than at Glastonbury this year. What will become of lycra man??”
