Westbury Library hosted their inaugural poetry appreciation circle on National Poetry Day on 3rd October.
Organisers said, “We all brought a favourite poem which we read out to the group and discussed. The selection ranged from Longfellow’s ‘The Day is Done’ to some “humbler poets”, including nonsense poem ‘The Jumblies’ by Edward Lear, a selection of funeral poems, and performance poetry by T Francis.
“We plan to make this circle a regular monthly activity on the first Thursday of the month, 6.00pm-7.00pm. We will next meet on 7th November, and the theme will be ‘Nature’. If you are interested, please come along with your favourite nature poem, which you can read out. Or just come along and listen to the conversation.
