POLICE in Westbury have said they are cracking down on young people’s anti-social behaviour and vandalism in the town centre.
The police said in an online statement that young people have been breaking into a nursery building near All Saints Church in the Market Place.
The statement read, “We have received numerous reports over several weeks of anti-social behaviour and vandalism in and around the area of All Saints Church, Westbury.
“Youths have broken into the old nursery building in the corner of the churchyard and caused significant damage to the building.
“Despite the building being subsequently boarded up, the youths have repeatedly forced open doors and windows to gain access and cause further damage to the building and nuisance to the residents.
“Due to the damage caused, they have put themselves at significant risk of harm. We are also aware that the youths are posting pictures on social media of themselves in the building.
“The owner has now used anti-climb paint on the building so anyone entering will have this non drying paint on their clothes.”
Officers appealed to parents and added, “If your child has recently come home covered in non-drying paint, it is likely they have been at this property. If this is the case could you take the time to speak to them to advise them of the dangers. We will also be using social media to identify offenders.”
