THIS year’s White Horse Military Show, which was due to take place this weekend, has been cancelled due to the wet weather, but organisers have reassured people that next year’s event will be even bigger and better than before.
The show was called off as the recent wet weather has meant that the ground has become waterlogged and will not be dry enough for the start of the event. The organiser of the show, Richard Dalton, says that this will allow the team more time to make the 2024 event better than ever.
“It’s a real shame that we cannot go ahead with this year’s show but safety takes priority over everything else,” he explained. “The ground is simply too wet for us to use it safely and we unfortunately couldn’t find an alternative location to hold it so we’ve had to postpone.
“I’ve had a lot of love and support from reenactors, volunteers and those that have bought tickets – they know I would only cancel the show if I absolutely had to and everyone is keen to make next year’s show even bigger than previously planned. There were a few groups that couldn’t come to this year’s show that said they are available next year so there’s plenty to look forward to and lots we are keeping under wraps for the time being!
“Something we can talk about and that is really exciting is the time travelling theatre which was due to take place for the first time at this year’s show. It will see immersive plays taking place throughout the various sets on the site – the audience has to choose a particular character to follow throughout the field as each character will lead to a different story.”
The event, created by military enthusiasts, offers people the opportunity to truly step back in time and embrace military history throughout the world from different time periods with members from living history groups that include the Napoleonic War, WWI and WWII, post-war and even the America Civil War.
