Westbury Police have issued a warning following several reports of youths using electric scooters in the town recently.
This comes after an electric scooter was seized on Hackney Way last month, with police confirming it would be destroyed.
“This should serve as a reminder not to use electric scooters on public roads or footpaths,” a spokesperson from Westbury Police said. “We will continue to take enforcement action to keep pedestrians and other road users safe.”
Information shared by police states, “E-scooters and unregistered e-motorbikes are classed as motor vehicles, so the same rules apply, including the need for a licence and insurance. As insurance is not currently available for privately owned e-scooters, it is illegal to use them on roads or in public spaces such as parks, pavements and shopping centres.
“Riders risk having their vehicle seized and, if they cause serious harm, the incident will be investigated in the same way as a collision involving a car or motorcycle.”
