A record 200 runners signed up for the White Horse Gallop trail run, which this year featured as race No. 2 in the Wiltshire Off-Road Race League.
Leading the field home over the challenging 8-mile course out from Leighton Recreation Centre in Westbury were James Donald of Team Bath AC and Karen Hacker of Chippenham Harriers. With the clear skies, the runners were afforded some great views across the county and beyond, once they had conquered the thigh-burning climb up the embankment next to the horse itself.
In the runners-up spot came Dan Piper of Avon Valley Runners, closely followed by Christopher Elmer of Team Bath who, along with Alberto Lapedrizo, claimed the men’s team prize, whilst the ladies’ team prize went to Trowbridge-based Avon Valley Runners with second-placed Leah Sartain, third-placed Gemma Lawton and Jolene Farion scoring the points.
Age category awards went to: MV40 – Gary MacAlister of Avon Valley Runners; FV40 – Gill Pearson of Running for Time; MV50 – Heath Bampton of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds; FV50 – Sam Kelly of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds; MV60 – Peter Allen of Corsham Running Club; FV60 – Daphne Marion of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds.
