THE people of Westbury have helped make it a record-breaking year for the town’s Poppy Appeal with £7,428 donated.
That total does not include the wreath money which is yet to be received but it surpasses the £6,500 raised last year.
Volunteers collected in Westbury’s Co-op and Morrisons, and there were also collecting boxes in shops all across the town. This year, the collection on Remembrance Sunday was also very successful, with a good sum raised on the day.
Bill Prior, Poppy Appeal organiser for Westbury said, “It has been a great year for us once again and I am pleased to say the whole community have been extremely generous and given us a great amount of £7,428 with more still to come.
“Many shops, clubs, pubs and individuals do their bit for us and we would like to say thank you to all of them for their contribution and time.”
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign. This year, they hope to break previous records with a national target of £42million and donations are welcome all year round.
