THOUSANDS of people descended onto the White Horse Country Park at the start of the month to see the huge range of classic and vintage cars on offer at the White Horse Classic and Vintage Car Show.
The popular event was organised by the Westbury and Trowbridge Lions clubs and a record £13,000 was raised which will be split between the two clubs which raise funds for local good causes and projects.
The organisers estimate that around 2,500 people came to the event to embrace the sunshine as they looked at the variety of classic and vintage cars, commercials, tractors, stationary engines and more – with live music from local bands entertaining people throughout the day.
“The turnout was fantastic and more than we could have hoped for; thank you to everyone who came,” said Westbury Lion and director of the event, Nigel Coward.
“We’ve had a lot of praise in the days since the event so people clearly enjoyed themselves! I was so proud to help run the event and to see everyone collaborating together – it was a very smooth day.
“It was great that we reached that £13,000 figure which is a record, especially given the current economic climate, but I think it’s partly due to the event’s reputation as well as the Lions brand – it’s an organisation that people can trust.
“A huge thank you to our sponsors Skip it Recycling, DepenSys, Polar Truck and Van, Patrex Safety Solutions, Byjama Consulting Services and of course the White Horse Country Park for hosting us. Thank you also to all the stallholders and the Weston Donkeys – we weren’t too sure if donkeys and classic cars would mix well but it turns out that everyone loved them!
“The day was made complete thanks to the great acts we had performing – thank you to Stuart Saye, The Remnants, Leander Morales who was our special guest act, The Red Bandits and Wade Merritt. Part of what made this event so special was championing local heroes and the artists truly delivered.”
