ONE hundred runners recently set off from Leighton Recreation Centre to conquer the tenth edition of the White Horse Gallop trail run.
The race takes place over the footpaths and bridleways leading up onto the Imber Range path before dropping down to the base of the White Horse hill leaving the runners with a steep ascent back to the top before heading back along the Wessex Ridgeway down to the finish.
Organisers say, “Conquering the seven+ miles in an impressive time of 48 minutes and 12 seconds was Michael Towler of Trowbridge from Avon Valley Runners, ahead of Stuart Padget from Chippenham Harriers and his clubmate Dan Coleman. In the ladies’ race, Charlotte Preece from Calne Running Club lead home ahead of second placed Rachael Strange of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds and Michelle Maxwell of Chippenham Harriers.
“Age group winners: 1st MV40 – Stuart Henderson of Corsham Running Club, 1st MV50 – Simon Rawlins of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds; 1st MV60 – Mark Smith of Chippenham Harriers; 1st FV40 – Veryan Cranston of Avon Valley Runners; 1st FV50 – Amanda Garton of Lonely Goat RC; 1st FV60 – Christine Meek of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds.
“Special mention should be made to 82nd placed Judith Wilson from Warminster who became the one thousandth runner to complete the White Horse Gallop.”
