Westbury Lions Club has raised almost £7,500 for local causes with last year’s Santa Float.
The Santa Float toured Westbury and the surrounding villages during the festive period, making stops at schools, retirement homes, local supermarkets and residential streets.
In total, nearly £7,500 was raised in donations, which the club described as “a tremendous effort and a testament to the generosity of the Westbury public”.
President of Westbury Lions Club Angie Fawcett said, “A lovely time was had by all, with the Lions and a large number of volunteers saying that the smiles on the children’s faces as they met Father Christmas was a sight to behold.
“Many of the children had written letters to Santa and for those that had remembered to submit their address received personal responses from Father Christmas which went down very well.
“A big thank you to all the Lions members, the large group of volunteers that gave their time either collecting or towing the Santa Float and a special thank you to James May of JJ Vans Sales for the loan of a minibus to tow the float, Polar Truck & Van for carrying out a much needed major refurbishment of the Santa Float and Morrison’s Supermarket for generously allowing us to reside outside their store on Christmas Eve.
“Last but not least, a big thank you to the public for again being so generous and enabling us to raise funds to help the less fortunate.”
